Australian Record of $8000 at the Waratah Dispersal

The Waratah White Suffolk stud of Steve and Debbie Milne at Branxholme held their Mated Ewe Dispersal sale on Friday the 8th April. It was an “amazing day” according to Debbie with Lot 49 selling to $8000, an Australian record for a White Suffolk ewe. “We are overwhelmed by the support shown to us today and extremely pleased that our genetics were so sought after by other breeders” said Steve.
209 ewes were offered on the day with 208 selling to an average of $2189. Ewes were purchased by 30 studs across 5 different states. Auctions Plus on line buyers operated on 201 of the 209 lots and were the successful purchasers of 90 lots.
The top priced ewe was purchased by Lachy Day from “Days Whiteface”, Bordertown SA a long-time supporter of the Waratah stud. The 2020 drop ewe is sired by Ella Matta 180160 and has impressive ASBVs of 156.7 LEQ with +0.02 IMF. She is scanned in lamb with twins to Warburn 160048. Lachy Day also purchased another 4 ewes to average $4040 for 5 ewes.
The second top price ewe was Lot 46 who sold to the Anden stud at Woomelang Vic for $6500. This Waratah 190379 sired ewe is in the top 5% for TCP and LEQ and is scanned in lamb with twins to Langley Heights 180231. Anden also purchased Lot 48 for $3800, a Waratah 190323 daughter also in the top 5% for LEQ and scanned in lamb with twins to Warburn 160048.
Anna Villa and Tiparra Springs purchased the first and last ewes offered in the sale for an average of $3375. Lot 4 who made $5500 is a stylish 2019 drop Waratah 170614 daughter scanned in lamb with twins to Langley Heights 180231.
Hamish Chandler, Armidale NSW has started the “Chandler” White Suffolk stud with the purchase of 37 Lots via Auctions Plus, to a top of $2400 at an average of $1718. These ewes are the foundation for this new White Suffolk stud and will run along-side his Poll Merino operation.
Locals Ian and Sarah James, Iona White Suffolks, Henty Vic purchased 15 Lots for an average of $2080. They paid $4000 for Lot 140, a 2018 drop ewe by Felix 150721 with an LEQ of 157 and TCP of 161. She is scanned in lamb with triplets to Langley Heights 180231.

Kinellar White Suffolks, Canowindra NSW purchased 14 Lots for an average of $3057. They paid $5400 for Lot 198 a 2016 drop ewe who is the dam of Waratah 200661, a ram sold for $15,000 to Days Whiteface. This ewe is scanned in lamb to Ella Matta 190030.
Adam and Michelle Lehmann from Caramut Vic, Glentanna White Suffolks purchased 14 Lots for an average of $2628. They paid a top of $3400 for Lot 27, a 2019 drop Waratah 180007 daughter, scanned in lamb with twins to Langley Heights 180231.
Stormy Lodge, Marrar NSW purchased 12 Lots for an average of $1750. They paid a top of $2600 for Lot 61, a 2020 drop Waratah 190453 daughter scanned in lamb with twins to Waratah 190323.
